MOSCOW, 7 Oct – PRIME. The American company Amazon turns off work that lasted about three years to create a delivery robot Scout, reports Bloomberg.
According to company representative Alice Carroll, the Scout development team is being disbanded and will receive new jobs in the organization.
“During the testing of Scout, we tried to create a unique delivery method, but through feedback we learned that some aspects of the program do not meet the needs of customers. As a result, we stop our tests and refocus the program,” she said.
As noted by the agency, citing a source, about 400 people around the world worked on the project.
Amazon began testing refrigerator-sized devices in 2019. The six-wheelers were designed to stop at the customer’s front door and open the lid of the compartment containing the package. The company said the battery-powered robots are part of efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from delivery.
