This is most likely another step by the Chinese authorities in censoring the Internet. Several dozen hours ago, Microsoft’s Bing search engine became unavailable in China, which is why local users fear that it may be the last foreign website blocked by censorship.
All attempts to enter cn.bing.com since last Wednesday resulted in an error message, which blocked the most famous foreign search engine available in China. Hours after Microsoft investigated the case, the spokesman in a brief statement said that indeed Bing was currently unavailable in China and that the case is still ongoing.
It is not known, however, whether this is another censorship of the Chinese authorities as part of their “Great Firewall”, or maybe the usual technical problems of servers serving local network traffic. Microsoft has not received any recommendation from the local government, but it has the ability and right to block URLs, which could also happen with the Bing search engine. The same has happened to loads of websites in the past, including Facebook and Twitter.
Users currently need to use a VPN to get around this / blockade and not use the censored Baidu search engine there.
