After acknowledging the request of the European Union e limited the quality of streaming in Europe so as not to clog the Internet in the heaviest period of the lockdown, Netflix appears to be loosening measures, albeit in small steps.
As reported by Forbes, in Germany the streaming of 4K Netflix content now reaches 15.25 Mbps on time, the highest quality profile "pre Coronavirus", while in the past weeks it had dropped to 7.62 Mbps, the lowest point. This has led to a degradation of video quality, evident especially in fast, dark and highly contrasted scenes.
In conclusion, Netflix seems to want to enter "Phase 2" following the decisions of the various countries, where the gradual reopening of jobs causes fewer people to spend the day at home doing nothing, forced to watch TV series and films to kill time. On April 21, the company led by Reed Hastings announced that it was working with ISPs to increase capacity: "in the last month we have added four times the normal capacity. As conditions improve, we will remove these limitations".
Two things can be deduced: the first is that Netflix intends to return to the pre-Coronavirus quality levels, something which many do not consider obvious; the second is that the decision to remove the limits will probably be linked to discussions with the individual ISPs of the various countries. Needless to say, what happened in Germany it should also happen in Italy, even if the methods and timing are not foreseeable at the moment.
