Nord Stream damaged by massive explosions, Danish police say

MURMANSK, 18 Oct — PRIME. The Danish and Norwegian police services have set up a joint investigation team to look into the circumstances of the damage to the Nord Stream and have made a preliminary conclusion that the highways were damaged by “powerful explosions,” the Danish police said.

It is noted that the Copenhagen police, with the assistance of the armed forces and in cooperation with the Norwegian police security service, conducted a preliminary investigation into the emergency at Nord Stream.

“The investigation confirmed that the Nord Stream 1 and 2 gas pipelines in the Danish exclusive economic zone suffered significant damage and that the damage was caused by powerful explosions,” the police said in a statement.

In addition, based on preliminary findings, the Norwegian Security Police and the Copenhagen Police have decided to set up a joint investigation team to further investigate the incidents, the Danish police said.

At the same time, the police say, it is still premature to talk about the possible participation of Sweden and Germany in this investigation, as well as when the investigation may be completed.

The attacks took place on September 26 at once on two Russian export gas pipelines to Europe – Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2. Germany, Denmark and Sweden do not rule out targeted sabotage. The Nord Stream operator Nord Stream AG reported that the state of emergency on gas pipelines was unprecedented and it was impossible to estimate the timing of repairs. The Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation initiated a case on an act of international terrorism after the damage to the Nord Stream gas pipelines.
