Nvidia Geforce “GP106” Pascal this fall

This summer, Nvidia’s architecture Pascal will premiere for consumers. First out is the GP104 graphics circuit, which will be used for successors to the Geforce GTX 970, GTX 980 and GTX 980 Ti. Then it’s time for GP106 to make its entrance and replace the bestseller Geforce GTX 960.

According to SweClockers, Nvidia will in the first wave focus on the upper performance segment before going down in lower price ranges. There is still no set date for the launch of GP106, but the period in question is August-September.

The GP106 graphics circuit succeeds the current GM206, which was launched with the Geforce GTX 960 and later found its way into the GTX 950. In this context, it is interesting that the latter has recently begun to be released in variants without the requirement for extra power supply. The same may therefore apply to graphics cards based on GP106, which with a new architecture and manufacturing of 16 nanometers are predicted to be more energy efficient.

Like much else related to the consumer launch of Pascal, many details around the GP106 are shrouded in obscurity. The fact that the circuit replaces the GM206, however, indicates that it will be used in graphics cards for around SEK 2,500 and down.
