In connection with AMD unveiling the new HEDT platform Ryzen Threadripper during last year’s Siggraph trade fair, they also showed a compact graphics card based on the upcoming Vega architecture. In appearance, the card was similar to the Radeon R9 Nano and many therefore expected that even an RX Vega Nano would accompany the presented RX Vega 64 and 56, something that has not happened so far.
Now, however, the Radeon RX Vega Nano is back on the agenda, as Powercolor shows a prototype of the graphics card during a technology event in Germany. The event was dedicated to the launch of second-generation Ryzen processors and PC Games Hardware (German) is now reporting on the unexpected product.
It is a short graphics card that is powered by a 6-pin and an 8-pin PCI Express and is accompanied by a single fan and heat sink in aluminum, which is slightly longer than the circuit board. The cooling device is enclosed by a black cover, which differs from the variant at the Siggraph trade fair which was made of brushed aluminum. Judging from the pictures, there are four picture connections of HDMI or Displayport type.
Powercolor says that it is not a circuit board of reference model, but a self-designed one based on the same scaled-down Vega 10 circuit found in RX Vega 56. The company has not yet decided whether the product will be launched sharply.
