Nvidia Geforce GTX 960 i prestandatest

With one week left until Nvidia’s launch of the mid-range Geforce GTX 960, the full specifications were leaked online yesterday. This is now complemented by another leak that reveals the graphics card’s performance in the 3DMark synthetic test suite, Fire Strike.

Performance figures for the Geforce GTX 960 are supplemented by SweClocker’s measured values.

In the regular test, the upcoming newcomer manages to pass the Radeon R9 280 and lie just behind the Geforce GTX 770, which in practice is an overclocked variant of the former flagship Geforce GTX 680. Perhaps most interesting is that the model beats the Geforce GTX 760, as it is intended to replace, by a good margin. Overclocked, the graphics score steps up to 8597.

A similar pattern that was previously noticeable in Extreme mode, where the resolution is increased to 2,560 x 1,440 pixels. However, two things stand out; The Geforce GTX 960 both passes the Radeon R9 280X and joins the Geforce GTX 770. This despite a narrow 128-bit memory bus and 2 GB of GDDR5 memory at 7.0 GHz.

It is worth mentioning that the tested graphics card has a base frequency of 1,228 MHz, which is just over 100 MHz higher than 1,127 MHz according to Nvidia’s reference design and thus has a positive effect on the results. However, it is likely that the majority of the Geforce GTX 960 will be factory overclocked with tailor-made designs from partner manufacturers.

The Nvidia Geforce GTX 960 launches on January 22nd.
