The Geforce GTX 960 is revealed in full specifications

To Nvidia’s great annoyance, confidentiality agreements and watermarked images are nothing to protect secret data sheets from leaking online. With only one week left until the launch of the Geforce GTX 960, most and little more is already known about the new mid-range. Now the complete specifications are also revealed.

As expected, the Geforce GTX 960 is based on the new graphics processor GM206 with the Maxwell architecture. Unlike its predecessor GM204, which is used in the Geforce GTX 970 and GTX 980, the newcomer is intended for lower price ranges. The main differences are fewer units of account and a narrower memory bus.

The new graphics processor contains 1,024 CUDA cores in the clock frequency 1,127 MHz. In Boost mode, on the other hand, the calculation units can step up to the class high 1,178 MHz. Nvidia also promises good overclocking potential and shows bars that extend up to 1,500 MHz.

On the memory front, there is 2 GB of GDDR5 memory on a 128-bit memory bus at a clock frequency of 7.0 GHz. The result is a halving of the bandwidth compared to the performance models Geforce GTX 970 and GTX 980. The architecture Maxwell’s efficient memory management should, however, to some extent compensate for this and according to Nvidia provide 33 percent higher efficient memory bandwidth than its predecessor Kepler.

Last but not least, low power consumption with a TDP value of 120 W is promised – as much as 50 W lower compared to its predecessor Geforce GTX 760. Despite this, the newcomer is said to perform much better and handle 60 fps at 1080p in several heavy game titles, also with the controls on High och 4x MSAA / MFAA.

The Geforce GTX 960 launches on January 22nd.
