AMD has been clear that the goal of the Radeon 300 series and R9 Fury X is to regain market share in the graphics market, where Nvidia today dominates with more than three quarters of sales. AMD’s plans should have caused Nvidia to react and now consider price reductions, at least in the upper performance segment.
According to Kitguru, Nvidia is investigating the possibility of tilting more graphics cards of the models Geforce GTX 980 Ti, GTX 980 and GTX 970. The report mentions that the prices for the trio are at a competitive level in the US, but that they are relatively higher in the sales region Europe.
The solution Nvidia is said to be considering is therefore targeted price adjustments for certain countries, where the company primarily wants to boost sales of the GTX 980 Ti. This would mean that the model will fall below the Radeon R9 Fury X and the upcoming R9 Fury in terms of price, something that could force AMD to lower prices.
When it comes to lower price ranges, Nvidia is said to take competition from AMD calmly. This is because the Radeon R9 390X, R9 390 and R9 380 are based on the graphics circuits Grenada (formerly Hawaii) and Tonga, which have low demand in the sales channels compared to the popular GTX 970 and the middle class GTX 960.
