Nvidia is preparing the Geforce 900M series for the mid-range and entry-level class

The computer manufacturers’ demand for a new graphics card series for laptops led Nvidia to develop the Geforce 800M, a family that is largely built around old graphics circuits with increased clock frequencies. However, there were two exceptions in the form of the Geforce GTX 860M and 850M, which are based around the GM107 and the energy-efficient architecture Maxwell.

Shortly after the launch of the stationary Geforce GTX 980 and 970, the scaled-down variants GTX 980M and 970M are also introduced, which were joined by 965M during CES. Videocardz now reports that the remaining graphics cards in the 900M series are coming in and these are models in the middle and entry class.

Under the Geforce GTX 965M are the GTX 960M and 950M, which according to previous rumors will be renamed models of the GTX 860M and 850M. Exactly what news is to be expected here is still unclear, but it is no big deal that it is mainly about higher clock frequencies and perhaps new software features.

Further down the hierarchy is the GM108 graphics circuit, which has 384 CUDA cores and a halved 64-bit memory bus. This is used in the Geforce 940M and 930M, where the absence of the GTX prefix reveals that they are not performance-oriented models.

Exactly when the Geforce GTX 960M and down will be released is not clear, but the report only claims that it will be “soon”. On the other hand, it appears that Asus, Acer and Lenovo already have computers with the graphics cards ready, which suggests that the launch should not be too far in time.
