Nvidia’s marketing manager leaves the company – goes to Intel

The semiconductor giant Intel is in full swing to build a well-known work team for the company’s new investment in high-performance graphics circuits in the Xe family. Previous acquisitions include Raja Koduri and Chris Hook from AMD’s graphics division Radeon Technologies Group (RTG). In addition, Jim Keller, the chief engineer behind the processor architecture Zen, was picked up from Tesla last year.

According to sources at Hothardware and Gamersnexus, Intel is now targeting the future rival Nvidia, where the marketing manager for Geforce, Tom Petersen, recently left his post at the company without announcing any new position. The information claims that Petersen was recruited by Intel to take a place in the game-oriented part of the company’s graphics division.

Tom Petersen worked as technical marketing manager at Nvidia’s Geforce division for 14 years, and during his time at the company was involved in improving technologies such as G-sync, GPU Boost and software interfaces for overclocking. Petersen is also said to have been central in the development of the measurement tool Frame Capture Analysis Tool (FCAT), which largely replaced FRAPS for measuring frame rates.

Before Nvidia, Petersen had a past at IBM and Motorola, where he worked on developing processors in the Power PC family. He also holds about 50 patents. Neither Petersen nor Intel has confirmed the information and it is not known when he started his new job.
