Pixel Fold will not impress us with the camera

Pixel Fold is the working name of the Google foldable smartphone, which we use for the lack of an official nomenclature. Today we got to know a few details about the cameras in this device.

What do we know about Pixel Fold?

Currently, our focus is still on the recent launch of the Pixel 6 series and the capabilities of the Tensor processor. In some time, however, we will have the premiere of a new Google smartphone, this time being a debut on the market of foldable models. We professionally call it the Pixel Fold device and more and more often it is the hero of leaks.

This time, 9to5Google shed some light on the issue of cameras. We learned that Google will not follow the path chosen by the new Pixel and instead of the Samsung GN1 50 Mpix sensor, it will go back to the one found in the previous generation of its smartphones. Pixel Fold is to be equipped with an IMX363 sensor with a resolution of 12.2 Mpix. Here, however, it is worth noting that the information provided by the website shows that this camera can only be used when the smartphone is assembled. In Pixel 6, the above sensor is responsible for ultra-wide-angle photos, so it is also possible that it will play such a role in Pixel Fold. We also learned that the foldable Google will also include two 8MP IMX355 cameras for “internal” and “external” use.

It seems that in Pixel Fold, Google will not bet on photographic skills, just like in the case of the Galaxy Z Fold3. Of course, you can expect many photographic functions, but this is unlikely to be a priority.
