AMD’s latest graphics circuit “Tonga” is about to launch on September 2 and it will be without reference design. Instead, partner manufacturers are responsible for everything from circuit boards to coolers and also get free rein with the clock frequencies, something that most people are expected to take advantage of.
Among the manufacturers is of course AMD-exclusive Powercolor, whose approaching Radeon R9 285 Turboduo will only be factory overclocked. However, this is a slight increase to 945 MHz, up from the standard frequency 918 MHz, and its 2 GB of GDDR5 memory remains at the regular 5,500 MHz.
The radiator is of the same cut as the current Turboduo models, which means four heat pipes and an aluminum heat sink, which are cooled by two fans. The whole thing is rounded off by two 6-pin PCI Express for extra power supply and the video connections HDMI 1.4a, a Displayport 1.2 and dual Dual-Link DVI.
The Powercolor Radeon R9 285 Turboduo is expected to be priced in line with AMD’s target price, which is $ 249 or the equivalent of approximately SEK 2,500 including VAT.
