The NBA and NFL support non-fungible tokens

At the NFT NYC event, dedicated to non-fungible tokens, two representatives of the NBA and NFL sports associations expressed their views on blockchain technology.

Adrienne O’Keeffe, Associate Vice President of NBA Partnerships, and Sophie Gage, an advisor to the NFL Player’s Association, joined a panel to discuss the value of blockchain technology for organizations.

They expressed their support for fan-tokens concepts, which support the involvement of supporters in team activity. However, Gage pointed out that there is still uncertainty about the legal status of these tokens.

Panini, a giant in the traditional player book market, has issued blockchain-based cards for the NFL, MLB, NBA, as well as for various football teams.

“It’s a new area for growth. There is a lot of untapped potential ”,

said Gage.

The promoted book is called “Bitcoin and Black America” and is written by Isaiah Jackson. He presents an in-depth analysis of the role cryptocurrencies can play in generating financial autonomy for African-Americans. Jackson noted that traditionally, the color population has been marginalized by the banking industry. Despite this, they did not rush to adopt blockchain assets as an alternative.

As Jackson points out, misinformation has been a problem in their communities. Also, the lack of bank access has made purchasing and investing in crypto difficult.

However, the situation is changing as the adoption of cryptocurrencies increases in all segments of American society.

New fraud charges for Crypto Capital operator Reginald Fowler

US authorities have brought new charges against Reginald Fowler, the operator behind the Crypto Capital payment processor. According to an indictment filed Friday, Fowler would have created a scheme to obtain money “through false and fraudulent claims” and directed the funds to a professional sports league. While the indictment does not name the league, Fowler was previously the primary investor in the American Football Alliance. This was a short-term alternative to the National Football League, which collapsed in the middle of the first season of last year.

Fowler was initially arrested for operating Global Trading Solutions LLC, which appears to be linked to Crypto Capital, a payment processor used by crypto companies to access banking services.

QuadrigaCX and Bitfinex are two of the exchanges that apparently used Crypto Capital to process user funds.
