Residents of Moldova were able to reduce gas consumption in September

CHISINAU, 5 Oct – PRIME. Household gas consumers in Moldova in September were able to reduce fuel consumption by 30%, said Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Infrastructure Andrei Spinu and urged citizens to continue saving.

“In September, residential consumers managed to reduce gas consumption by more than 30% compared to the same month last year, and thank you for your efforts and frugality. Please, let’s continue in the same spirit – save as much as we can. I believe what we can,” Spinu wrote on his Telegram channel.

According to him, the people of Moldova know what harsh winters are, so they will be able to cope with the energy crisis.

“The government, the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Republic of Moldova will help people survive this difficult winter through compensation. We all have to get out of difficulties with our heads held high,” the Deputy Prime Minister added.

Moldova is experiencing an energy crisis due to rising energy prices. The authorities intend to reduce gas consumption in winter by at least 15%, and have also developed and submitted for discussion a plan that includes turning off street lighting, lowering the central heating temperature, transferring schoolchildren and students to distance learning. Since August, Moldovagaz has been cutting off consumers who have not paid on time for services for the supply of natural gas.

In October last year, the Moldovan authorities agreed with Gazprom to extend the contract for the supply of gas to the republic, subject to an audit of the Moldovagaz debt in 2022. Only in August, the Moldovan government concluded an audit agreement with the Norwegian company Wikborg Rein Advokatfirma and the British Forensic Risk Alliance & Co. However, Spinu told Gazprom that the government would not have time to complete the debt audit by October 1, so he asked the Russian side for a delay.
