Common to the latest generation of graphics cards is, to say the least, lack of access and the so-called recommended prices (MSRP), which so far have turned out to be nothing more than empty words from AMD and Nvidia. When no one thought the situation could get worse, further price increases on graphics cards could be imminent.
Chinese Mydriver now reports that the prices of graphics memory are on the rise, but does not go into details about the type of memory. Reasonably, it should be the most common type, GDDR6, which is used by AMD in all graphics cards and by Nvidia up to Geforce RTX 3070. The top models RTX 3080 and RTX 3090 use GDDR6X instead, an Nvidia-exclusive memory technology developed in collaboration with Micron.
The details are scarce, but according to the report, the memory manufacturers’ price increase will take place after the holidays around the Chinese New Year. The holiday begins on 12 February and in connection with this, large parts of the country’s population go on holiday for two weeks. In practice, this means that the price adjustment takes effect in the first days of March.
