Russian scientists have created material for sodium-ion batteries from hogweed

MOSCOW, 23 Oct – PRIME. Batteries magazine published research by scientists from Moscow State University. M.V. Lomonosov and Skoltech, who managed to synthesize an effective material for the anodes of sodium-ion batteries from poisonous hogweed.

These batteries are an alternative to lithium-ion batteries. Lithium is mined in a limited number of countries and is constantly becoming more expensive, while there are no such problems with sodium. But in order to use it effectively, it is necessary to replace the materials of the cathode and anode of the battery.

Researchers from Moscow State University M.V. Lomonosov and Skoltech successfully synthesized a material for sodium-ion battery anodes from poisonous hogweed, which is in no way inferior in efficiency to the best materials created from other raw materials.

According to scientists, it is very profitable to produce batteries using hogweed, since this weed grows in large quantities in many regions of the country. At the same time, it is envisaged that batteries created on its basis will be noticeably cheaper than lithium-ion ones.
