Sales of GeForce RTX cards failed Nvidie

Today, Nvidia disclosed its financial results for the last quarter of 2018, admitting that it was disappointed with sales of the latest graphics cards aimed at the consumer market, the GeForce RTX 2000.

The debut of these cards based on the Turing architecture was not particularly successful, which was evident from the discussions and the wave of complaints after the official presentation. Customers, mainly players, complained about the too high price, not a particularly large jump in “raw performance” compared to its predecessors. This one is, of course, rewarded with novelties like the RT and Tensor cores, but their specialization (computing related to artificial intelligence) in the Nvidia RTX and DLSS technology is still far from showing what it can do.

All, of course, due to the lack of games that would convince Pascal (GTX 1000) cardholders to replace their GPU with something new. For Nvidia, this is so inconvenient that even if in the future these two technologies will be an indispensable part of every game, their cards will simply stand still by then.

However, the relatively weak income was influenced by more factors, among which the ones related to cryptocurrencies stand out. It turns out that the equally sudden increase in demand for cards has had an impact on the stocks in warehouses, which Nvidia has accumulated especially in the middle segment. Their prices fell due to oversupply, which did not reward the costs that were properly invested in their production.
