Samsung’s new patent – another double-folded smartphone

This year, Samsung will release the next generation of foldable smartphones. Meanwhile, once again we get an insight into the patent filed by the company, although this project is very different from those we saw previously.

You can fold this smartphone the way you want, i.e. a new Samsung patent

Some time ago, patent documentation showing a double-folded Samsung smartphone appeared on the network. Now we are dealing with such a patent once again, but with a completely different design. In that one, the screen was simply divided into three parts, making up the letter “z”. This time, however, we are dealing with a display divided into two parts, which, however, can be folded both along the vertical and horizontal axis. Additionally – inside or outside.

The patent was filed by Samsung Electronics with WIPO (World Intellectual Property Organization) on July 13, 2021, and was published on February 10 of that year. We know from the documentation that the screen surface of this smartphone would be the same as in the Galaxy Z Fold3. The difference comes down to the fold line. Additionally, as we can see in the graphics, the camera system remains useful in each version of the assembly.

I must admit that it looks quite interesting. However, if Samsung decides to produce it, it will have to solve the problem of the fold line visible on the screen. There are more of them here than in the standard Galaxy Z Fold. In addition, it will be important to protect the screen so that the folded part on the outside is not damaged and scratched.
