Autonomous helicopters are still a distant vision. However, thanks to SkyRyse, it has come much closer. The company has developed flight assist technology that can come in handy in emergency situations.
SkyRyse has just secured $ 25 million to develop the Advanced Pilot Assistance System (APAS). This system is designed to reduce human error and will work with Vertical TakeOff and Landing (VTOL) aircraft. APAS uses a wide range of vision technologies and sensors to improve situation information and relieve the pilot. It also has an intelligent algorithm to automate, adjust and improve aircraft control systems. Thus, it is perfect for creating the first fully autonomous helicopters.
The company currently focuses on Air Emergency Response services and from January APAS will be used in Tracy and California. I wonder if the response time of the services to the threat will actually be reduced and thus the safety of many people will improve.
