Terra Delyssa olive oil proves its origin thanks to the IBM blockchain

The olive oil supplier CHO joined the blockchain program IBM Food Trust to guarantee consumers the quality and origin of its products. The traceability of his Terra Delyssa extra virgin oil must therefore be ensured. What strengthen customer confidence?

In recent years, several surveys have uncovered scams around the quality and origin of the olive oils sold. These mediatized deceptions are likely to worry consumers and thus slow down their purchases.

Customer interest in the origin of products, such as coffee for example, is more general, however. Several food brands have seized the blockchain to reassure the consumer about the traceability of their products.

Blockchain at the service of consumer confidence

A number of these manufacturers have come together on the IBM Food Trust platform. This is now the case for the Tunisian producer of olive oil CHO. The company specifies that it will operate the blockchain in order to create a provenance file retracing the route of his Terra Delyssa oil from the retailer to the olive tree.

The product traceability will be guaranteed through eight quality assurance checkpoints. The different data linked to the production route, including the orchard where the olives were grown, will be kept on a private blockchain via the platform IBM.

To access this information, consumers will be able to scan a QR Code displayed on the label of each bottle of Terra Delyssa Olive Oil.

Consumers can have peace of mind about the origin of their olive oil, "said the manufacturer.

Confidence is precisely the first factor today motivating the use of blockchain in the field alimentary.

Media coverage of olive oil labeling errors and illicit olive oil counterfeiting, as well as general confusion about how olive oils are mixed, has raised consumer suspicion , ”Is sure to point out IBM.

Several brands and distributors have also positioned themselves on this issue of food traceability. This is for example the case ofAuchan since the end of 2018 through the launch of a blockchain dedicated to food traceability in France.

The fight against food fraud also justifies these initiatives. For the practice Juniper Research, this interest is even financially very justified. He estimates the savings made on food fraud thanks to the blockchain $ 31 billion globally by 2024.
