Test Xiaomi Redmi Note 5

Test Xiaomi Redmi Note 5

The chase for numbers continues. The performance of our handheld computers has already exceeded our wildest expectations many times over. It is a pity that the price goes hand in hand with it, but we do not have to buy flagships. I invite you to the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 test.

Packaging and appearance of Redmi Note 5:

The box itself is nothing to reveal. A red cuboid with some accessories and the phone inside. The set includes a black silicone case which is full of clichés, but it is still a nice gesture towards the customer. In addition, there is a charger there, unfortunately without the Quickcharge standard, although the phone itself supports it. But there is also something you can love this phone for – no note. Nevertheless, the body of the smartphone itself is not very large and you can use it comfortably with only one hand. An IPS display with a diagonal of 5.99 ″ in the aspect ratio of 18: 9 was used here. With a resolution of 2160 x 1080, it gives us a good density of pixels per inch – 403. Above the display we find, of course, a speaker for phone calls, a 13MP front camera, a notification LED and several sensors. On the back, we can see a non-uniform housing: on the upper and lower edges we find plastic extensions to help in catching the range. In addition, there is a fingerprint reader and the main camera “ajiphon”. This one protrudes from the housing, so it is worth thinking about the case, for example the one included in the set. The sides are quite standard: on the right there are buttons for adjusting the volume and waking up the phone, in addition, at the bottom we find a rare mini jack and a slightly outdated micro USB connector.

Software – probably all known to MIUI

I think that the software used by the Chinese dragon needs no introduction – MIUI is a really great, although demanding Android overlay. It’s a bit like iOS, but it doesn’t lack an identity of its own. We will find here a whole lot of useful functions, such as application cloning, screen recording, the possibility of blocking programs with a finger or even abandoning navigation buttons in favor of gestures.

Battery performance? As for me a bomb!

In terms of batteries, it is a complete masterpiece. Although Xiaomi said goodbye to the energy-saving Snapdragon 625, this device was able to withstand well over one day on a single charge. Without any problems, this phone withstood 6 hours of the screen on, and usually it reached seven or even eight hours without any problems. And since we don’t have the Snapdragon 625 here anymore, what’s under the hood? Well, Snapdragon 636 supported by 3/4 GB of RAM depending on the version selected. I myself had the pleasure to test this phone in a four gigabyte version. In everyday use, this phone was really fluid. The applications loaded quickly and in my opinion, no normal user needs anything else at the moment. But for all number lovers, I also include the benchmark results:

What about this camera?

Okay, if we start comparing the camera from today’s tested smartphone to flagship designs, as you know, it looks poor, but if we think about devices in a similar price range, then … okay, there is no tragedy, but it could be improved a little. What hurts me the most is that the second camera lens is almost useless here. Okay, after all, we use it to “catch depth” and blur the background. However, a telephoto lens would be much more useful here, I think that at the moment it is the most sensible use of such systems. The photos themselves are not tragic, you can see quite good detail, nice depth and contrast here. Sometimes the colors appear pale depending on the light. However, the problem is with night photos and in low light.

So how does Redmi Note 5 compare to the competition?

Excuse me about what? To be honest, its purchase amount is second to none on the Polish market. In the Polish distribution, we can buy it for about PLN 800 (4 GB version), a brilliant price for such a universal smartphone. However, it has a few disadvantages that in the eyes of many can delete it at the start – the main problem is the lack of NFC, we can also forget about contactless payments, the same when it comes to wireless charging, it is also a pity that it was decided to use micro USB here. Ha! but we can get rid of the remote control from the house … Okay, but joking about it, I would really be friends with the blue color version of this model! I highly recommend Redmi Note 5.
