The company Grant Thornton has begun to assess the losses of clients of the exchange Cryptopia

The company Grant Thornton, engaged in the elimination of the hacked cryptocurrency exchange Cryptopia, reported on the interim results of the investigation.

In the publication
states that it was possible to solve one of the main problems of the current stage – to obtain a database of customer assets from a data center in the US Phoenix. Now the company is engaged in the comparison of this data with the funds that remained under the control of Cryptopia.

“This is a labor-intensive process, because hundreds of thousands of people were customers of the exchange, many of whom owned several assets,” they write.

In parallel, Grant Thornton works with lawyers to resolve the issue of returning the remaining assets to their owners. It is reported that due to the January hacking, this process is rather complicated and time consuming.

“The exchange, on which the hacker attack was carried out, cannot be taken to re-open. It is necessary to follow certain rules and requirements that apply to liquidator companies in New Zealand and internationally. These rules are mainly related to countering money laundering and the financing of terrorism, ”they write.

Grant Thornton has made Cryptopia bankrupt in the United States, thanks to which the exchange and its assets have received additional protection in US jurisdiction. But, one way or another, the international investigation is currently only at the initial stage.

Also, company representatives reported that they receive a lot of calls and can not respond to everything, so they are advised to follow the updates in publicly available sources.

Recall that earlier analysts rated
Cryptopia’s $ 16 million loss in the air and ERC20 tokens
