The construction of the Turkish Hisar-class patrol vessel is underway

At the Naval Shipyard in Istanbul, the block construction of the main Hisar-class vessel, TCG Akhisar, has started. This was announced on April 8 by the Turkish state-owned company ASFAT, announcing that it had completed the critical phase of designing the domestic Hisar-class naval patrol vessel.

The construction of a Turkish Hisar-type patrol vessel has already started at the shipyard

You might have heard about the first Hisar-class ship before, because the steel cutting ceremony for this OPV took place on August 15, 2021, and the 1: 1 scale model of the ship was first presented at the IDEF 2021 in Istanbul on August 17-21 2021. The abbreviated OPV stands for Offshore Patrol Vessel, which is a program initiated to meet the needs of the Turkish naval forces, which includes a plan to build 10 ships.

These ships will be tasked with carrying out intelligence, observation and reconnaissance missions, as well as search and rescue, counter-terrorism, emergency and special operations at sea. They will therefore be largely versatile, combining a CODELOD (COmbined Diesel-eLectric Or Diesel) main drive with a range of 8,334 km on board.

The deck with a length of 99.56 meters and a width of 14.42 meters will accommodate 104 people, and if you are interested in Hisar roots, you will probably be interested in the fact that it comes from the MILGREM class corvette.
