The Ethereum Tornado project – data confidentiality through ZkSNARKs

One of Bitcoin’s oldest developers, Gavin Andresen, seems to be shifting to the Ethereum blockchain. He resumed his activity on social media this year with several comments on ETH projects.

Gavin Andresen was once the main developer of the Bitcoin Core core code. He was managing at one time the so-called Bitcoin repository, but access was restricted in 2016. Since then, Andresen has stopped contributing to the development of the project and has limited himself to a few comments about the cryptocurrency industry.

This week, he returned to social media with a series of comments on Ethereum and plans to contribute to the Tornado.cash project.

“I think CryptoKitties was the most exciting cryptocurrency project of 2018. I wouldn’t have thought people would pay so much for digital collectibles. It made me think, which is important to me. PoolTogether is an exciting project from 2019. I don’t know what I will find interesting in 2020, but it will probably be built on Ethereum. ”

The Ethereum Tornado project

Later, Andresen published some comments and proposals for solutions for the Tornado.cash project.

This is an Ethereum application that ensures data privacy using the ZkSNARKs (Zero-Knowledge Succinct Non-Interactive Argument of Knowledge) system.

Andresen said he is “playing” with Tornado, the smart contract running on the Ethereum blockchain:

“When I say smart, I mean really smart,”

emphasized Andresen in his blog post.

“Tornado.cash uses ZkSNARK encryption, so the ether (or tokens) deposited in the contract cannot be linked to those withdrawn.”

He made some proposals to improve the protocol and ideas about a type of wallet that would ensure confidentiality.

Andresen has 10 years experience in developing blockchain and crypto solutions. His involvement in the Ethereum Tornado project is an indication that he has turned his attention to the Ethereum project, which is great news for the community.
