The European Union has filled gas storage facilities by more than 90 percent

MOSCOW, 7 Oct — PRIME. Injection into underground gas storage facilities (UGS) in Europe continues, they are already filled by more than 90%, according to the Association of Gas Infrastructure Operators of Europe (Gas Infrastructure Europe, GIE).

As of the end of the gas day on October 5 (ended at 7:00 Moscow time on October 6), underground gas storage facilities (UGS) were 90.12% full, with an increase of 0.24 percentage points (p.p.) per day. In total, they contain about 97.39 billion cubic meters.

According to EU rules, all countries by November 1 this year must fill UGS at least 80%, and in subsequent years – at least 90%. The indicator of 80% has not yet been reached in Bulgaria (77.79%), Hungary (74.76%) and Latvia (53.13%). they are uneven.

Gas storages usually provide only 25-30% of the gas consumed in Europe in the winter, the European Commission reported in the summer. Even close to the maximum reserves in UGS facilities in large EU countries do not guarantee a reliable passage of the autumn-winter period, Gazprom believes.

Traditionally, the heating season in Europe begins in mid-October, although last year it fully started only in November.
