The head of the IAEA announced the resumption of dialogue with Iran

VIENNA, 26 Sep – PRIME. The head of the IAEA, Rafael Grossi, said that he had met with the head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, Mohammad Eslami, and also announced the resumption of dialogue on safeguards for a number of Iranian facilities.

As the head of the IAEA Grossi said earlier during the June session of the Board of Governors, Iran has not yet explained to the agency the origin of uranium at three undeclared sites, and the issues of guarantees for them remain unresolved.

“Dialogue has resumed with Iran to clear up unresolved safeguards issues. I received Mohammad Eslami, Vice President (of Iran – ed.) and Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran,” Grossi wrote on Twitter.

Earlier on Monday, Grossi urged Iran to find a joint solution to the existing differences with the IAEA, and also said that he intends to hold a meeting with the head of the Iranian atomic energy organization within the framework of the IAEA General Conference.

Earlier, the Eurotroika (Germany, France, Britain) stated that Tehran’s position on the JCPOA on the Iranian nuclear program jeopardizes the prospects for restoring the deal. The joint statement noted that Iran continues to develop its nuclear program, going “far beyond” what can be justified by “civilian considerations.” In addition, as the agreement approaches, Tehran has again raised certain issues related to its obligations under the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) and the safeguards agreement concluded with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

The Iranian Foreign Ministry stressed that the “Eurotroika” by its statement is pushing the negotiations to a breakdown.
