The most detailed photo of a work of art. As many as 717 billion pixels to view

The Rijksmuseum has made available a unique, because the most detailed photo of a work of art in history, which allows each of us to see at home the painting “The Company of Frans Banning Cocq and Willem van Ruytenburch” by Rembrandt.

Measuring 363 x 437 cm, the painting by the Dutch painter is now in the collections of the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. It was the museum that recently carried out an action, which resulted in a unique photo of this painting made with the use of oil paints in 1642, which in 1975 was destroyed with a knife by an unemployed teacher, and 15 years later someone poured acid on it. Fortunately, it was restored to an exceptionally good condition.

However, today not about the work itself, but about how it was possible to create such a perfect photo of it. The research team is responsible for them, which used a Hasselblad H6D camera on a special boom to take a total of 8,439 individual 100-megapixel photos. Each image has a depth of field set at 125 micrometers, which required a laser scan in advance for the team to fine-tune the focus. Color and focus were set with the help of an artificial intelligence system.

Then all the photos were joined together to create a 717 billion pixel photo. were stitched together to create this 717 billionth painting of Rembrandt’s famous painting. In this photo you can see practically everything – just an unfinished dog, a play of chiaroscuro and the cuts of the aforementioned cutthroat.
