The Overclocker scalped the $ 2999 Xeon W-3175X

If you’re here, you probably know what the whole processor delidding procedure is. Downloading the heat exchanger (IHS) from any CPU requires only familiarization with the structure of the system itself, but also precision and composure that can evaporate when working on a processor costing $ 2999.

I am talking exactly about the Intel Xeon W-3175X chip, which went on sale a few days ago. No wonder that the German overclocker Der8auer got it right now and instead of putting it in a server right away, he decided to check how the company decided to solve the issue of connecting the huge core with IHS. This 28-core, 56-thread processor simply may not be the coolest chip, but heat removal is facilitated by the sheer size of the silicon die.

What’s inside? Of course, glut, i.e. a thermally conductive paste, which at this price simply should not even suit the manufacturer. Especially since the W-3175X costs the aforementioned $ 2999, but only if the company decides to purchase as many as a thousand of these processors. So Der8auer replaced the paste with liquid metal, which of course resulted in significant temperature drops.

In one test, the temperature given in degrees Celsius dropped from 84 / 89.5 / 95 to 71 / 80.85 / 90 (minimum temperature, average and highest). This would not take any rational user to take risks with scalping, but for those who would like to turn up the clock (originally 3.1 GHz base and 4.3 GHz in boost mode) it will be the only way out, as shown by the stress test on Prime 95:
