The Spirit Animal concept guitar combines strings with a synthesizer

Combining synthesized sounds with rock guitar riffs requires you to install a MIDI chip, connect directly to a stomp box, or combine both tracks in post-production. The Spirit Animal guitar is to be a salvation for this, combining an ordinary guitar with a BioTek 2 synthesizer as part of the cooperation between Lucem Custom Instruments and Tracktion Corporation.

The Spirit Animal guitar has an XT-T BioTek 2 synthesizer displayed on a 5-inch touchscreen mounted behind the hard bridge of a double-headed guitar. BioTek 2 itself is a sampling and synthesis virtual playground that includes over 500 sounds created by Richard Devine and Christian Halten, although it requires a laptop to run, for example. However, in this project there was no room for a computer, and this was replaced with a Raspberry Pi chip hidden inside the body, providing the processing power needed.

The guitar itself features a rosewood fingerboard with 22 dotted frets, 3 × 3 chrome tuners, a three-way pickup selector, and five volume / tone controls. The signal from both the synthesizer and guitar pickups is output through the instrument jack on the front of the body. In turn, there are two ports on this bottom – USB for charging and Ethernet for screen sharing / sharing. Spirit Animal, however, is purely a concept, though further details will be revealed ahead of her debut at the NAMM 2019 event in California.
