The symbol for Satoshi – a great Community Search

The price of Bitcoin is rising, which creates difficulties in using it as a payment method. An article published by Quartz points out that a sandwich can reach 0.0008950 BTC, a difficult number to use.

The potential use of cryptocurrency for day-to-day payments is faced not only with frequent volatility debates, but also with the fact that these amounts involve many decimals.

Many community members argue that mass adoption requires the use of a subdivision. Theoretically, it already exists – Satoshi, the name given to the smallest indivisible unit of the cryptocurrency.

One Satoshi equals 0.00000001 BTC, which means a $ 10 sandwich would cost about 90,000 Satoshi. The name of the subdivision comes from the name of the mysterious Bitcoin creator Satoshi Nakamoto

Finding a symbol for Satoshi

The Bitcoin symbol “฿” – designed by the inventor of the coin, Satoshi Nakomoto as an icon for an initial version of Bitcoin – was included in version 10.0 of Unicode, the standard of the computerized computing industry. Unicode 10.0 was released in June 2017 – about a decade after the launch of the cryptocurrency.

The inclusion of the Bitcoin symbol in Unicode 10.0 was due to software engineer Ken Shirriff. Responding to growing calls to formalize a symbol that would help Satoshi’s widespread use, Shirriff said:

“There are several random possibilities: ? Ꭶ ş ᔑ ﮔ § ᗸ ƃ ? ᚑ Ҍ þ ꝧ Ⴉ. I recommend using a symbol that is already in Unicode. Although it is fun to invent a new symbol for Satoshi, it would be largely unusable and cause problems. “

However, community members continue to promote various options for new symbols.
