The zero-emission superyacht Norway owes its uniqueness to sails straight from the Langskip

Kurt Strand Design has unveiled its zero-emission superyacht called Norway. Such a name, of course, did not come out of nowhere, because it has a direct connection with the Vikings, or more precisely, with their ships (langskips) with large sails.

The 161-meter long, emission-free superyacht may pollute the world with its propulsion, but only in near-gate situations. This is when three generators powered by diesel or liquefied natural gas will come into play. However, the main idea of ​​the project is to travel without harmful emissions at any stage.

All thanks to the modern version of the sails, which also use the wind, but for different purposes. Rather than propelling the ship directly, the sails generate energy as they sail and store it in on-board batteries. Under ideal weather conditions, this will generate excess energy that will either be stored on overcast days or used to produce hydrogen. This, in turn, is one of the alternative fuels for the generators mentioned.

Aside from its driving uniqueness, Norway’s emission-free superyacht is huge. It offers accommodation for 24 guests in the form of 12 luxury apartments and a crew of 40, and is also equipped with a fitness center, spa, swimming pool, garage for supercars, cinema and even a mini-hospital.
