University of Switzerland tests blockchain system for diploma authentication

The University of Switzerland of St. Gallen announced the start of testing a blockchain system that will help in the fight against the falsification of higher education diplomas.

According to CNN, thanks to the use of distributed registry technology, authentication of diplomas now takes seconds, instead of a few days. University Information Technology Director Harald Rotter emphasized:

“I realized that this is necessary, and the blockchain is great for the process of transferring and verifying our diplomas.”

The university entered into an agreement with the local BlockFactory blockchain startup, within which the company provided its certification solution for the issuance of diplomas that cannot be faked – each diploma is registered on the Ethereum blockchain.

It was previously reported that in Malaysia they plan to deal with fake diplomas at the national level. For this, the country’s Ministry of Education introduced the E-Skrol system based on the NEM blockchain. In addition, in February, Malta announced the transfer of storage of education diplomas to the blockchain.
