It has been a little more than a month since Nvidia launched its new generation of graphics cards, where the Geforce RTX 2080 and RTX 2080 Ti models were first out. With the new architecture Turing under the hood, news such as was promised ray tracing and machine learning along with terribly high game performance.
Now several threads have appeared on Nvidia’s forums where users report that they have been hit by systems that crashed and artifacts in games with Geforce RTX 2080 and 2080 Ti. Similar threads have also been created on forums such as Reddit and the problems seem to mainly affect users with Founders Edition, although cases with Asus and Gigabyte models have been reported.
Several of those affected say that they sent back their card and received a new one in exchange, and that they also had the same problem. What this is due to is currently unknown, but it is speculated that it is related to the GDDR6 memory from Micron used for the graphics cards – something that would explain the graphical artifacts that arise in users with problems.
It is worth mentioning that at present there are only a few users and SweClocker’s editorial staff has not noticed any problems when testing a number of models from different manufacturers. Nvidia has not yet commented on the information.
Do you own a Geforce RTX 2080 or RTX 2080 Ti and have had similar problems? Or does it work well for you? Share your experiences in the comment thread!
