Geforce GTX 980 Ti ready for launch

It blows up to battle on the graphics card front. For the sake of rarity, this is not about new Maxwell-based models, but about AMD’s counterattack with the next generation Radeon. However, Nvidia does not intend to sit back and watch, but may well plan to steal the spotlight with a new flagship in the 900 series.

According to SweClockers, the reference model of the Geforce GTX 980 Ti is already ready and Nvidia is now said to be just waiting for the right opportunity to introduce the new graphics card. Speculation is that Nvidia will use the newcomer to try to crash AMD’s launch of the next generation Radeon, where the flagships in the series are expected to arrive in connection with the Computex trade fair in early June.

So far, however, the original plan remains with a launch of the Geforce GTX 980 Ti in late summer, probably in September. This would mean that the partner manufacturers have time to develop their own models with, for example, tailor-made coolers and lavish circuit boards. If, on the other hand, the launch is brought forward, it only applies to the reference design.

Like the Geforce GTX Titan X, the Geforce GTX 980 Ti is expected to build on the full version of the GM200 graphics processor with all 3,072 CUDA cores intact. However, Nvidia chooses to halve the amount of memory from 12 to 6 GB of GDDR5 in order to score a lower price range.
