BELGRADE, 15 Sep – PRIME. Serbia and Europe are facing the most difficult winter since the Second World War, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said during a special meeting of parliament.
“I want people to know that the next 6.5 months – until March 31 – will be the most difficult for all of Europe after World War II,” he said.
Vučić stressed that the coming year would be one of the busiest for the Serbian people since 1945. According to him, gas reserves accumulated in Serbian and Hungarian storage facilities by the beginning of the heating season will last for two months.
In addition, the politician during his speech said that Serbia “in no way” recognizes the independence of the self-proclaimed republic of Kosovo.
Western countries have introduced tough restrictive measures against Russia in connection with a special operation in Ukraine. The sanctions also affected the energy sector. Against this backdrop, Europe is faced with an intensifying energy crisis, rising fuel prices and a shortage of raw materials.
Earlier, the State Secretary of the Hungarian Foreign Ministry for Bilateral Relations, Tamas Menzer, said that the EU could revise its sanctions policy in the fall amid cold weather and rising fuel prices.
