What will cheaper Intel chipsets allow? Specification of H670, B660 and H610

Less advanced and therefore less expensive motherboards for Alder Lake-S processors should debut on January 4. However, thanks to the information from momomo_us, we can take a look in advance at what Intel’s cheaper chipsets will offer as the H670, B660 and H610 specs have just leaked.

H670, B660 and H610 specifications leaked, so what will cheaper Intel chipsets offer?

It is said that all three of them will have their premiere in January, and they will be available in both DDR5 and DDR4 versions. Just as the Z690 chipset is exclusive with its CPU overclocking capability, H670 and B660 owners needn’t worry about being unable to speed up DDR memory. This option will be missing from the H610, which, however, like the others, will be able to receive PCIe 5.0 lines, although it will depend on the version of the motherboard.

For H670 motherboards (like the Z690) you can expect one or two PCIe 5.0 expansion slots. A single slot works in a 1×16 configuration, while taking two will limit them to a 2×8 configuration. The B660 and H610 motherboards, in turn, are limited to one PCIe 5.0 expansion slot, with the latter preventing the CPU from providing 4 PCIe 4.0 lanes for M.2 storage.

On the internal connection side, the two most expensive chipsets (Z690 and H670) will use eight of the DMI4.0 lines, and the two cheaper ones (B660 and H610) will use four out of four, limiting connectivity options. By far the most important thing is that, with the exception of the H610, any other chipset will have access to a PCIe 4.0 lane and will support USB 3.2 (20 Gb / s). More details are provided in the table above.
