XFX replaces the graphics card cooler for free for those who bought Thicc II

The American component manufacturer XFX began its career by making graphics cards with Nvidia circuits, but in 2009 began a love affair with the competitor AMD. Over time, the XFX completely shifted to focusing entirely on graphics cards from AMD. Shortly after the launch of the Navi family, therefore, tailor-made coolers were released from the company, but these did not fully appeal to reviewers and users.

It was the XFX Radeon RX 5700 XT Thicc II that received criticism for its outer base plate in aluminum alloy and a thin metal film that led to negative cooling properties. XFX has since released Thicc III, which offers three instead of two fans and a revised cooling solution. Thicc II is also updated with the new solution, and existing owners can upgrade free of charge.

The updated radiator gets a slightly longer heat sink, while the outer base plate that covers the GDDR6 memory is now made of copper and the thin metal film has been removed. When Techpowerup compared Thicc III with the first revision Thicc II, the former showed 8 C ° lower temperatures for the graphics memory, something that is primarily attributed to the new base plate.

Thicc II with the revised radiator solution is already on store shelves today, and enthusiasts who bought the first revision can contact XFX to get a new radiator free of charge. It is not yet entirely clear whether it is possible to see a difference in the audits without disassembling your graphics card.
