Earlier this year, Nvidia launched the Geforce GTX 1600 graphics card series, which takes the Turing architecture to the low- and mid-segment. AMD’s contribution in this price range has for several years been graphics cards according to the aging Polaris architecture, but during the week the company unveiled Navi-based Radeon RX 5500, with graphics circuit made of 7 nanometers and up to 8 GB of GDDR6 type memory.
It has long been rumored that AMD’s Radeon RX 5700 and RX 5700 XT will be joined by cheaper variants, but the information that Nvidia will oppose these has hailed at least as closely. Various third-party manufacturers have revealed that the Geforce GTX 1660 Super is on the way and now Videocardz has put its hands on product images of this particular card, Zotac signed.
The pictures show the graphics card in two versions, together with packaging that clearly shows that it is a Geforce GTX 1660 Super. The more powerful model is native to Zotac’s “Amp” series, which is rumored to be that the manufacturer has twisted up the clock frequencies slightly. Exact specifications for both cards are missing, however, but the packaging confirms 6 GB of GDDR6 memory.
The Geforce GTX 1660 is currently equipped with the older memory type GDDR5 with a memory frequency of 8,000 MHz. Like the more competent Turing cards, the “Ti” version of the GTX 1660 has GDDR6 memory, which rolls at 12,000 MHz for a memory bandwidth well above the sibling. At the time of writing, however, it is unknown what memory levels will be relevant for the GTX 1660 Super.
Furthermore, the pictures reveal that the Geforce GTX 1660 Super is equipped with extra power supply via an 8-pin PCI Express connector. This includes a relatively neat cooling solution with double fans and an aluminum cooling flange with heat conduction pipes, which means that the card occupies two expansion slots.
The color scheme for the fans and the surrounding plastic cover is in black and gray. The “Amp” variant also comes with a cover plate for the back, which also follows the gray-black theme. When it comes to picture connections, these are four in number and consisting of three Displayports and one HDMI.
The new member of the Super family is expected to make its debut sometime in October, but Nvidia has not yet officially unveiled the graphics cards. When the RTX 2070 Super and RTX 2080 Super were launched, they completely replaced their predecessors and this with an unchanged price tag. It is possible that the same thing awaits the Geforce GTX 1660 Super, which can then have a price of around SEK 2,500.
