A million dollars for company sabotage. The DemonWare group is trying to strike from the inside

Do you know the legend of the Trojan Horse? This is a great example of how you can make life easier for hackers – just invite them “in”, providing direct access to company resources, and preferably also “from the inside”, as DemonWare group offers, offering a million dollars for sabotaging the company .

DemonWare tried to convince employees to sabotage the company

Abnormal Security specialists say that earlier this month, they not only detected, but also counteracted many attempts to persuade employees of companies whose security they deal with before selling out to hackers. I am talking exactly about those from the DemonWare group, also known as Black Kingdom and DEMON, who offered a million bucks in Bitcoin just for installing ransomware and thus infecting the network.

The offers were simple – the employee installs the software physically or remotely on the company computer or Windows server and receives a transfer to a virtual wallet that will set them up for the rest of their lives. Willing to contact the hackers either via e-mail on Outlook or Telegram, and if they agreed to the terms, they would become complicit and would probably get the money only after the company agreed to pay the ransom.

By itself, a ransomware attack boils down mainly to blocking access to data stored on your computer, but not forever. Blocked will remain until the victim pays the ransom, which is never certain anyway, because if someone has already managed to block specific data, they probably also have a copy of it, so the blackmail can go on forever.
