A new GeForce MX GPU from NVIDIA, specific for notebooks

In the range of video cards NVIDIA intended for notebooks we find various proposals from families GeForce RTX is GeForce GTX. These are models with high processing power, which allow to ensure valid performance with the latest games even at high resolutions but which for this reason require a chassis of not too small dimensions so as to dissipate the heat generated during use.

NVIDIA also offers solutions from GeForce MX family, specific video cards for more compact notebooks that represent an alternative to the proposals integrated in both Intel and AMD processors. These solutions are currently based on Pascal architecture, the one adopted by NVIDIA for the video cards of the previous generation GeForce GTX 1000 family.

The horizon overlooks the debut of new GPUs of the GeForce MX family, based instead on Turing architecture which is the one currently in use in the GeForce RTX 2000 and GeForce GTX 1600 cards. According to information from a 3DMark benchmark that appeared online, the new generation GeForce MX cards should be based on TU117 GPU.

The information report one for this GPU clock frequency of 540 MHz, with 2 Gbytes of 10 Gbps GDDR6 memory combined. The internal name of this chip should be that of N18S-G5, according to what reported by the Notebookcheck site, going to replace the GeForce MX 350 GPU that uses the internal name N17S-G5.

When will we see these NVIDIA GPUs in thin notebooks debut? It is conceivable that the launch may take place during the second half of the year in notebooks scheduled for sale between September and the end of the year. These GPUs should be positioned as an alternative to the video solutions integrated by AMD and Intel in their mobile processors: in the first case we talk about the Vega solutions integrated in the Ryzen 4000 processors, while in the second the reference is to the GPU architecture of the family Xe integrated by Intel in the Tiger Lake Core series processors.
