AMD at CES 2020: presentations and releases

AMD Ryzen 4000 for laptops

One of the first releases that the company has shown at CES 2020 is its new Ryzen 4000 range for laptops.

These new processors incorporate the AMD Zen 2 architecture at APU for laptops from this manufacturer. Thanks to this, the performance of the new models increases dramatically, just as it happened when the company presented its AMD Ryzen 3000 desktop processors last 2019.

Inside the Ryzen 4000 processors for laptops, users will have 8 cores and 16 threads of computing. his iGPU will continue to use the Radeon Vega architecture. However, the CU of these graphs will now also be manufactured at 7 nm. Like the cores. This allows them to have twice the yield per watt consumed. As well as consume 20% less than the current generation of processors for laptops.

Initially there will be two Models of these AMD Ryzen 4000 for laptops. On the one hand, there will be the Ryzen 7 4800U. A model with 8 cores and 16 threads, with a base frequency of 1.8 GHz and a boost that can reach 4.2 GHz.

This model will have 8 CU Radeon Vega inside as iGPU. And, all this, with a TDP of only 15 W.

On the other hand, there will be the Ryzen 7 4800H.

This model has a TDP considerably higher, reaching 45 W. Which allows it to have a base frequency of 2.9 GHz, although its Boost is the same as in the previous model: 4.2 GHz. All this translates into excellent performance in games

It should also be noted that, the comparison with the iGPU Intel's processors seem laughable. Given its ridiculous performance in games.

The first AMD Ryzen 4000 processors for laptops will go on sale during the first quarter of 2020. And, throughout this same year, up to 100 different models of laptops that mount these processors should appear.

Radeon RX 5600 XT

The next novelty that AMD has presented at CES 2020 has been its new graphics card Radeon RX 5600 XT.

Exactly the same as what happened with the current ones Radeon RX 5500 XT, there will be no AMD reference model. All models will be developed by the company's assembly partners.

This new graph model is also produced in 7 nm. Use the new RDNA architecture and inside it will mount 36 CU (Compute Units). That is the same CU number used by his older sister, the Radeon RX 5700. However, the difference between the two models lies in the VRAM memory bus that they use Since the new model mounts 6 GB of GDDR6 on a 192-bit bus. While his older sister uses a 256-bit bus.

The new AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT graphics card has been developed with the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Ti in the spotlight. Or, what is the same, play 1080p resolution with all the graphic details uploaded to the maximum. And, according to the results shown by AMD in its presentation of CES 2020, they would be superior to the NVIDIA chart.

And also in the environment of eSports

Now, we cannot forget that NVIDIA has its model right now GTX 1660 Ti SUPER in the market. So it will be interesting to see how the new model is defended when it reaches the market. Arrival that is scheduled to occur on January 21, 2020, at a price of $ 279.

AMD Threadripper 3990X

Finally, AMD has taken advantage of CES 2020 to present its new processor AMD Threadripper 3990X. The top of the range of the Threadripper 3000 series that was presented last year 2019.

This new processor model becomes the first of the desktop range from AMD, which is capable of mounting 64 cores and 128 threads.

And he does it with some frequencies operating quite respectable. Since its base is 2.9 GHz, while the Boost is capable of reaching 4.3 GHz.

As for his performance, The numbers talk for themselves.

The new AMD model is up to 30% faster than two processors Intel Xeon Platinum 8280. Cost significantly less. Although, we must recognize that the almost 4000 dollars that each model will cost, will not be available to most street users.
