AMD confirms the Radeon RX 500X series on official website

At the beginning of the year, AMD in connection with CES 2018 gave a proper insight into what is to come in 2018, where new graphics cards for consumers shone with their absence. At the beginning of April, it appeared that the company was working on a refresh of the current Radeon RX 500 series, where the addition “X” at the end of the product name marks an improvement.

The information is now confirmed by the company, which lists what will probably be the entire Radeon RX 500X series on its website. So far, these are only links to product pages for the Radeon RX 580X, RX 570X, RX 560X and RX 550X, where no new information appears about the quartet.

What the new series will mean in practice is still shrouded in obscurity, but the fact that AMD is not stepping up to the RX 600 series suggests that it is not about any major improvements. It is worth mentioning that AMD uses “X” at the end of the product names its Ryzen processors with higher clock frequencies and power consumption than models without the add-on – for example Ryzen 5 1600X or 7 1700X.

One possible speculation is that the new series will step up to 12 nanometers, which AMD will first introduce with the Ryzen 2000 series “Pinnacle Ridge” on April 19. This would enable the company to produce more energy-efficient and slightly better-performing graphics cards than today’s Radeon 500 series.

Earlier reports suggest that AMD’s Radeon RX 500X series will be launched in early summer and will offer five to six percent better performance than the current Radeon RX 500 series, which in turn is a refresh of the RX 400 series released this summer. 2016.
