AMD, new drivers for the Ryzen platform chipsets: fixed bugs and improved stability

AMD has published a new version of drivers dedicated to chipset for platforms intended for Ryzen processors (desktop and mobile) and Ryzen Threadripper. The new version 2.04.04.111, downloadable from the company's website, was created to solve various problems manifested by users (in particular on Reddit) and that AMD was then able to reproduce in the laboratory.

According to the release notes, drivers should not guarantee better performance, but improvements to general stability and the resolution of some bugs related mainly to the installation. Previous drivers could indeed hang during installation, show an "Error 1720" and do not install in different locations than the C: directory.

AMD has also fixed a screen rotation problem with some systems with mobile processors and a "rare system freeze" with 7th generation A-series APUs. The drivers still have known, but minor, problems, except one for which the installer may not update a sub-package to the latest version. AMD recommends in case it happens to manually uninstall any sub-package, restart and then reinstall the driver.

As for the compatibility of drivers 2.04.04.111 we suggest you take a look at the release notes, which indicate all the combinations of chipset, CPU and operating system supported.

Recall that the chipset drivers allow the system to make the CPU perform better (especially in the early days after the debut of a new architecture) and have the best performance on the input and output front. Typically few are those who care about updating these drivers, unlike those of the video card, also because drivers are distributed via Windows Update, albeit at a slower pace.

In case you have encountered problems of some kind recently, we suggest you download and try the latest version, otherwise wait without worries that Windows Update will deal with it.
