AMD Radeon Fury X remains rare on store shelves

With no less than 8.9 billion transistors, AMD’s graphics processor Fiji is one of the most advanced circuits ever manufactured. Along with stacked memories or High Bandwidth Memory construction is also a significant breakthrough, but the high complexity comes at a price.

According to information to SweClockers, there is still a shortage of AMD’s latest graphics processor and no way out is yet in sight. This is especially true of the flagship Radeon R9 Fury X, which after almost three months on the market is still in short supply.

Taiwanese manufacturers say the shortage is due to several factors. First and foremost, production is limited by the fact that AMD does not produce enough faultless circuits. For cost reasons, many manufacturers are also reluctant to produce smaller series of graphics cards. Many prefer to simply wait for access to improve.

Another factor is that a large part of the Fiji circuits have been redirected to the launch of the Radeon R9 Nano. This graphics card was introduced just under a week ago and uses the same full version of the circuit as the more powerful Fury X.

Finally, it appears that there may also be strategic reasons for the low availability of graphics cards. Several of AMD’s partner manufacturers prioritize lower priced models in the 300 series as a result of these being sold in larger volumes. With declining demand, many are at the same time cautious about building stocks, especially when it comes to graphics cards in the higher price ranges.
