A while ago, AMD took the plunge and presented a new series of graphics cards for professional users, where the Firepro W7100 is surprisingly first out with the graphics processor Tonga. The same circuit will also be used for consumer-oriented graphics cards in the Radeon series. The introduction takes place already this weekend.
On Saturday, August 23, AMD plans to give a preview of the Radeon R9 285 “Tonga” at an event that will be broadcast live online. One week later, it’s time for the official sales start, which takes place on 2 September. On the same date, the media may also publish the first reviews of the new graphics card.
The graphics processor Tonga will in practice replace today’s Tahiti, but the full version of the circuit will be saved for the upcoming Radeon R9 285X, which will be launched at a later time. Radeon R9 285 goes into the same price point as R9 280X; around SEK 2,500 including VAT.
In connection with the start of sales, AMD is also launching a new campaign with games on the purchase, this time on the theme “space”. Exactly which titles are relevant is still unclear. Civilization: Beyond Earth, Eve: Valkyrie, Elite: Dangerous and Star Citizen are some possible candidates.
