When AMD launched the latest generation Radeon, it was clear that it would only be a single new graphics processor, but not without reason. The Fiji Performance Circuit is the first in the world with High Bandwidth Memory and is used in three lavish graphics cards: the flagship Fury X, scaled-down Fury and at least the Nano.

At the Hot Chips 2015 conference, AMD takes the opportunity to gossip about some of the news. Although the Radeon R9 Nano contains the same graphics processor as the Fury X, the new minimum should offer close to 50 percent more performance per watt. The difference is even greater compared to its predecessor Radeon R9 290X “Hawaii”, where the Nano is almost twice as efficient.
In pure numbers, a Radeon R9 Nano should give about 33 fps in Far Cry 4 at 4K UHD resolution and Ultra settings. It can be compared to the Radeon R9 290X “Hawaii” and Fury X at about 30 and 42 fps respectively. This is despite a TDP value of only 175 W, significantly lower than the predecessors’ 290 and 275 W. respectively.
Like the flagship Fury X, the Radeon R9 Nano contains the full-scale version of Fiji with 4,096 computing units and 4 GB of HBM memory. The graphics card measures only 6 inches or about 15.5 centimeters. Since AMD uses traditional air cooling, the graphics card also fits in computer systems that otherwise lack space for a radiator.
AMD Radeon R9 Nano “soft-launched” on August 27. However, some independent performance tests may not be published until September 10, and it is still unclear when the graphics card will appear at Swedish retailers.
