AMD responds to Intel: price cut expected for the Ryzen 9 3900X

Yesterday Intel has officially started sales of 10th generation Core processors, with proposals ranging from a minimum of 4 cores touching the maximum of 10 cores with the model Core i9-10900K. This processor is positioned, for performance and price, in direct comparison with the model AMD Ryzen 9 3900X, equipped with 12-core architecture but characterized by a lower maximum clock frequency.

For the Intel processor the official list speaks of a price of 489 dollars, excluding taxes; for the AMD proposal instead new information reports a reduction in the lists that should reposition it around $ 410 excluding taxes, good drop compared to the official list of 499 dollars. It should be noted that AMD also includes a cooling solution with the processor, which is absent with the Core i9-10900K models.

The repositioning at $ 410 price makes the Ryzen 9 3900X model even more interesting in comparison with the new generation Intel proposals. In our review of the 10th generation Intel Core processors, published at this address, we highlighted how the AMD solution can boast a margin of advantage in multithreaded areas thanks to the availability of a greater number of cores; Intel, on the other hand, gains space with applications that make the most of not the number of cores but the availability of a higher clock frequency.

It now remains to be seen to what extent the AMD Ryzen 9 3900X CPU lists will also reposition themselves in Italy; at present, this CPU can be purchased at prices of around € 500 including VAT, while for the new Core i9-10900K model the first official prices are close to the threshold of € 649 including VAT. We must also not forget that over the past few months the prices of the Ryzen 9 3900X processor have diverged several times from the reference price list of 499 dollars indicated by AMD, with values that in any case had not yet reached the 410 dollars indicated as the new price suggested for the retail channel.
