AMD, the latest drivers for chipsets also have problems (but only for a few)

About ten days ago, AMD has published new drivers for chipsets platforms intended for Ryzen processors (desktop and mobile) and Ryzen Threadripper, in order to solve some installation problems. The release has proven effective for many, but some users have noticed new problems, as reported by some members of the forum of the German site Computerbase.

It seems that on some PCs the new installer, although it works correctly, does not update the GPIO driver to the latest version or install it completely. In addition, some users report an increase in CPU consumption and incorrect operating voltages, along with other problems with Ryzen Master.

ComputerBase and AMD have joined forces to identify the source of the problems: the German site is collecting log files from users and after making them anonymous it is turning them over to the AMD driver team to identify the bugs. The logs are as follows:

  • % Userprofile% AMD_Chipset_IODrivers.Log
  • % Userprofile% Device_ID.log
  • c: windows inf setupapi.dev
  • c: /windows/inf/setupapi.log
  • c: windows inf setupapi.log
  • c: windows dpinst.log

It is important to reiterate that these problems they emerged on a small number of systems, but at the same time it seems that the latest drivers still have some problems to correct. If you have experienced these bugs, or even others, while waiting for an update from AMD, you can switch to a more dated version of the drivers.

The latest driver version is 2.04.04.111, while the penultimate version is 2.03.12.0657. The advice is therefore to install the previous one, available from this page. If you have not seen any hitches of any kind, then you are among the many lucky ones who have to do absolutely nothing.
