ASUS TUF gaming laptops rely on AMD

In its two newest proposals for the TUF family, ASUS focused exclusively on AMD, and that’s exactly what the recently announced AMD Ryzen 5 3550H chip and the Radeon RX 560X card (“X” from the mobile version). It is a pity that we are not talking about representatives of the Republic of Gamers series here, but undemanding consumers should take a look at TUF. All because of the ratio of performance and price, which is much better in it.

We are talking exactly about two models – FX505DY and FX705DY, which differ practically only in display and battery size. Both are powered by the aforementioned CPU and GPU duo in combination with up to 32 GB of DDR4 memory, SSD up to 515 GB or a combination of HDD and SSD with a total capacity of 1 TB. They are even covered by the MIL-STD-810G rating for resistance to minor falls. However, I will stop for a moment at the processor itself, because in theory its name suggests that we are dealing here with a combination of the Zen 2 architecture and the 7nm process … but not. In the mobile segment, Ryzen 3000 is still dominated by 12nm and Zen +. It’s a pity. Anyway, four cores, 8 threads, a maximum of 3.7 GHz with a TDP of 35W and the presence of the Radeon Vega 8 integrated (unnecessary in these laptops) does its job.

The FX505DY and FX705DY may offer Full HD resolution, but while the former has a 15.6-inch screen with 120Hz refresh, the latter is 17.3-inch at 60Hz. The difference is also in the battery – 64 Wh for the larger one and 48 Wh for the smaller one, which in theory translates into seven and six hours of operation, respectively. Both laptops are available in Red Matter (red keyboard illumination only) and Gold Steel (RGB keyboard illumination). However, availability and price have not been disclosed.
